The illustrations for these ads is of Seaboard 4500, the prototype DR12-8-3000 built.
Ordered by Seaboard in June 1945 and delivered in December of that year, c/n 71579.
The DR12-8-3000 was the first model with the "Babyface" cab and powered by 600-series
diesels, using twin 1500 hp 608SC prime movers. The 2-D+D-2 wheel arrangement lead to the DR12-8-3000's "Centipede" nickname. Seaboard 4500 differed from subsequent Centipedes in having full-height air intakes and longer wheelbase lead and trailing trucks. |
