"All shots in major yards were done with a signed release and accompanied
by a friend who is a CN employee. CN today has a 'No-Tolerance' policy to
tresspassing; so NEVER try to enter a CN yard to take photos!"

GMD1 1903 from series 1900-1917. This is an interesting shot. When Via Rail started
in 1979 CN found itself short of steam-generator equipped power for commuter
trains which they were still responsible for. Normally these were western-assigned
units but were brought to Montreal in the cold winter months to provide heat
for the Montreal-St Hyacinthe commuter trains. They could only be photographed
in the frigid early morning hours on a week-day as it was dark for the afternoon rush.

GMD1u 1423 rebuilt from CN's original GMD1 1000, Point St Charles rebuilt
a number of GMD1's in 1987. These are completely re-manufactured with new
control stands. They even received their own bulder's plates before the Point
St Charles shops were sold to Alstom which still rebuilds locomotives today.
