The location is on the Northern Pacific P&L branch (Spokane-Lewiston), just west of Moscow ID, which is seen in the background. Baldwin NP 501 is seen on passenger train 314. This loco, along with sister 500 (original numbers 176 and 175) were purchased for the 2 Spokane-Lewiston passenger runs. When trains 312-313 were discontinued in 1950 t he 500 went to Seattle. 501 continued to handle trains 311-314 until spring 1952 when it was replaced by GP7 556.
