The USAF was an original owner, it acquired two S12s new from Baldwin ordered by the Central Procurement Agency
Other models were acquired from other sources.

"This picture shows USAF 7126 at Tinker AFB in Midwest City, OK., a suburb of Oklahoma City. This is an Air Force Publicity photo that was given to me many years ago by a friend that worked at Tinker. When I worked for the Rock Island in OKC, I remember seeing this unit DIT in the train of a Santa Fe Local which ran over Rock Island tracks. This was in the early 1970s. The engine number was white lined so I guess it had been retired."
