"The system includes an alternator & rectifier similar to a car. Starting with the GP40, this arrangementwas standard on turbocharged EMDs, the DC generator was an option for turbo units but as far as I know
only two GP39DC's were the only ones with this option. Conversely, the alternator/rectifier was an option
for the non-turbocharged units including SW1000, SW1500, GP15-1 & MP15."
