Windsor & Hantsport Railwayphotos by Grizzz2003 The Windsor and Hantsport Railway (WHRC), owned by the Iron Roads Railways, started operations in August 1994. The rail line operates 54.8 miles of former DAR/Canadian Pacific Railway Halifax sub in central Nova Scotia. It runs from Windsor Junction, where it interchanges with CN, to the end of rail at Kentville. The WHRC office and shops are located in Windsor, at the eastern gateway to the Annapolis Valley. The primary commodities on the WHRC are gypsum, rock, grain, vegetable oil and lumber. It also operates a seasonal tourist excursion train, the Evangeline Express. WHRC System Map. |

The Evangeline ExpressThe WHRC's seasonal tourist excursion train.Grand Pré is located along Nova Scotia's Evangeline Trail in the beautiful Annapolis Valley. At the Grand Pré National Historic Site, a stone church stands as a memorial to the Acadians who were exiled from their homes and farms in 1755. The site also features a statue of Evangeline, the Acadian heroine whose spirit inspired Henry Wordsworth Longfellow's famous poem. |

WHRC Motive PowerThe WHRC roster consists solely of ex Canadian Pacific Montreal Locomotive Works RS23 locomotives. Only 8046 has been completely repainted into WHRC colours. The other units retain their original CPR colours and numbers with only the CPR logos painted over. Maintenance is done at the WHRC shop at Windsor. The shop holds six units and has two through tracks. |
