Note on Identity
"Interesting fact about the Navy is they always stamp the 65-00000 number on the striker castings behind the coupler." - Roger Fuehring, Madison RR.
When Crane 4 & 10 were acquired by the Madison RR they examined the striker casting on each unit. On #4 they found “65-00620” which matches the USN number on the unit. On #10 they found “65-00610”, not the USN number on the unit. This unit has been reported in the past to have been rebuilt from Crane #17 (65-00530) but judging from the number on the striker castings it seems to be 65-00610. It's assumed that Crane #17 (65-00530) was not rebuild but replaced by 65-00610 which was renumbered to be 65-00530(2nd).
